Cold Climate Heat Pumps

Since the introduction of ductless mini-split systems, technology has transformed the residential heating and air conditioning market. These systems can maintain their capacity even at low temperatures. What does this mean? Well, a typical old-fashioned heat pump would rely on the system's electric backup heat strip when temperatures drop below 35 or so degrees outdoors to meet the heating demand and reach the desired temperature. These new "inverter/variable speed compressors" will maintain the labeled BTU output in negative outdoor temperatures. This will help reduce excess heating costs when the electric heat strips are turned on. These electric heat strips, "back-up heat or emergency heat," are the biggest consumers of electricity during the winter months. Give us a call at 215-364-3522 to find out more!
